Circuit Game
This game requires electric current to flow through a complete circuit.
Current can't flow in a broken circuit because electrons only moves in a
continuous stream.
Make it work
At the start of the game the circuit is broken and the light is off. Try
to move the playing stick along the circuit, if you're hand shakes the
loop touches the wire, the bulb lights up because the circuit is
completed.
You will need
- battery wire
- bulb and bulb holder
- dowel
- alligator clips/paper clips
- colored tape
- wire coat hanger
- sandpaper
- screw eyes, large and small
- balsa wood and wood glue, or shoe box
A usual coat hanger is coated with thin layer of plastic. Remove
the plastic and rub it with a sandpaper. If you do not remove the
plastic it will insulate the wire and the circuit won't work.
Procedures:
- Attach the large screw eye into the end of the dowel. Put a
long piece of stripped wire through the eye and tape it to the
playing stick then wrap a colored tape around the dowel.
- Create a box by gluing the pieces of wood together, or you
can use a shoe box. Paint the box and divide it into sections
with colored tape.
- Place the bulb holder at one end of the box then wire it up
and push the wires to the top of the box.
- Put a small screw eye into the end of the box. If you are
using a shoe box you may try to tape them together. Twist and
bend the coat hanger wire and use it in the top part of the
game. Thread the bent wire to the screw eye in the playing
stick, then connect the ends of the coat hanger wire to the
screw eyes on the box.
- Under the box, attach one of the wires from the bulb holder
to the battery. Put an alligator clip on the other bulb holder
wire and attach it to one end of the bent coat hanger.
- Attach the wire from the playing stick to the free battery
terminal then let the game begin!
